Apostasy 101 – No Roots, The Falling Away

Our study streams from the chapter 2 of 2 Thessalonians written by Paul about the coming of Jesus Christ and how we should be aware not to be deceived:

1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,

2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

That famous line…”except there come a falling away first…” tells of a turning point for worse things to come. Thus verse 5 to 7 tells us that we’ve been told already and now we know…

5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.

7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

Its crucial we understood what this means for it exposes the fulfillment of prophecy, so we can watch better the turning of the tides before Jesus will return. I sought the Bible to explain the Bible and did a word search for “fall away” so I studied Luke’s version of the essential parable – The Sower. Luke 8:13 says:

They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.

The parable of the sower reveals all. Taking the 3 accounts of this parable shows stony ground as the condition of the hearts of men who claim to receive Christ, yet when tribulation/ affliction or persecutions (for the sake of the word) or temptation (to deny God’s word) comes…they FALL AWAY!

Matthew 13: 20 -21

But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; | Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.”

Mark 4: 16-17

And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness; | And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word’s sake, immediately they are offended.”

Having no root in the cross, no root in repentance, no root in Christ is dangerous.

Matthew 13:6

And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.

Apostasy 101 – Holding truth in unrighteousness

A study of the book of Romans shows us that the righteousness of God is revealed in the gospel, its the power that saves us who believe, we shouldn’t be ashamed of it. God has revealed it to His people so there’s no excuse for anyone who knows it to keep doing the wrong thing.

Romans 1:

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.

20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

note: after investigating the facts and seeing prophecy fulfilled in history’s past and the present day, anyone claiming that these can all be just happening by chance and there can’t be a designer or creator for everything, can only be described as ‘willingly ignorant’. We really don’t have any excuse for remaining in denial.

The effects of holding truth in unrighteousness:

The phrase “holding truth in unrighteousness” basically means one is keeping that knowledge of the truth while in the act of/ or presence of unrighteousness. Its like serving two opposing masters at one time or mingling poison with good food. In its simplest example – cheating on your spouse. The bible tells of its effects below…

a.) forgetting God and His amazing grace, ungrateful, driven by vain imaginations, foolish heart darkens:

21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

b.) getting confused and misguided…vulnerable to deceitful lies:

22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

The Levels of falling out / steps to getting ‘apostated’:

1.) God gives you up…to uncleaness, to lies, to be deceived

24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

2.) God gives you up…to vile affections, perversions

26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

3.) God gives you up…to a reprobate mind, a lost persons’mind!

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit,malignity; whisperers,

30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

4.) Having a seared conscience – knowing judgement but loves to do evil things and those who do them.

32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Message: if you don’t stand fast in the faith by His word, you will gravitate to falling away from the path of righteousness, away from God’s presence. Lost to the World. This world is such a toxic vacuum that one need not do anything to be sucked in to it it will find a way so tempting anyone will blend right through.
