What Prosperity?

When I was brought back from my own Egypt, or land of bondage, when my eyes have just been opened to the truth of God’s word and His ways and being led by the Holy Spirit in the renewal of my mind, this has been one of the things that I have heard other brethren in Christ talk about and have even been at one point convinced of the doctrine of prosperity in this life. Unknowing babes in Christ are the primary victims to this false gospel. But subtle as it is, we are warned to stay away from this doctrine. Clearly in His word, God has taught us the simplicity of Christ and so follow Him instead of being distracted by the vain imaginings of people corrupting the word of God as these are the very same teachings from the synagogue of satan (Rev 2:9). Dear follower of Christ beware!

Lets go back to Matthew 23:23~ 26, Jesus’ rebuke of the Pharisees being hypocrites focusing on the outward physical things rather than the weightier inward ones which are the spiritual things. In verse 23 it tells us that the law (Love God and your fellowmen – both embodied in the ten commandments), judgement (by God for unbelievers) , mercy (God’s gift of Christ) and faith (in Jesus Christ as we wait for His coming) are what matters most. Mathew 23…

23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier [matters] of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

24 [Ye] blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.

25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.

26 [Thou] blind Pharisee, cleanse first that [which is] within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

Then we have 1 Timothy 6 exposing the heresy of the Prosperity Gospel teaching.

First, God’s will for us is to be humble and work well under our masters, honoring them, giving no reason for God’s name and doctrine to be blasphemed. Moreso those masters that are brethren in Christ. This makes me wonder who really controls the worker’s unions?

1 . Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and [his] doctrine be not blasphemed.

2 And they that have believing masters, let them not despise [them], because they are brethren; but rather do [them] service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort.

Clearly its stated in 1Timothy 6 the devisings of the enemy about this matter of seeking “a better life now” through prosperity in this earthly life.

3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, [even] the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;

4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,

5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

The false doctrine – “having gain is godliness”. These two are never related to each other. Very clear is the instruction – withdraw thyself from it.

God’s definition of great gain :

6 . But godliness with contentment is great gain.

7 For we brought nothing into [this] world, [and it is] certain we can carry nothing out.

8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

Godliness which is filling your spirit with the word of God and doing what it says being renewed by it every day, and being content with what you have is great gain. BIG difference!

Here is the pitfall of being rich with material possessions:

9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and [into] many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Instead of getting caught up with this distraction of the enemy and feeding your soulish, fleshly desires, seek the Lord and His righteousness

11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

Remember Mathew 3

33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day [is] the evil thereof.

Let no man tell you otherwise, thus saith the Lord.
