Word of God

The Essential Parable

I have the red letter bible edition where it shows everything Jesus said in red letters. In one of the passages these words were red and it seem to not only stress out this was important since Jesus said it, but because it indicates that the understanding of the other parables depend on your understanding of this specific one.

The essential parable is this Parable of the Sower: read Mark 4:13:

And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables?

Jesus said in Matthew 18:16 “But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.”. So I took Matthew’s and John’s accounts to join with Mark’s. Its remarkable how these 3 are a jigsaw puzzle trio that ties seamlessly with each other (talk about precept upon precept, line upon line). Take note of the use of ‘hear’, ‘receive’, ‘understand’ and ‘keep’ in all accounts. I did a little comparative study of these accounts to see the whole message…and more.

a.) What is the seed sown?: It’s God’s word, the true preserved inerrant Bible.

Mark 4:14 “The sower soweth the word.”

Matthew 13 – embedded ‘word’ in next verses

Luke 8:11 “Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.”

b.) Receiving seed by the wayside: heard it, didn’t understand it, devil sweeps down and takes the word away

Mark 4:15 “And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.”

Matthew 13:19 “When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.”

Luke 8:12 “Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.”

c.) Receiving seed on stony/ rocky ground: heard it, joyful about it, but lack root, affliction, persecution, temptation against the word arise causes the falling away

Mark 4:16 -17 “And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness; | And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word’s sake, immediately they are offended.”

Matthew 13:20-21 “But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; | Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.”

Luke 8:13 “They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.”

d.) Receiving seed among thorns: heard it, but worldly cares, riches, pleasures and lusts choke the word, no fruit

Mark 4:18-19 “And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, |And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

Matthew 13:22 “He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.”

Luke 8:14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.

Note: Thorns from both accounts can be summarized as: a.) Cares of this world, b.) deceitfulness of riches and c.) lusts of other things. All of which describes the Love of the World-see this related message. This also relates to Abiding in the Lord – see this related message

e.) Receiving seed on Good Ground: in an honest and good heart…hearing it, keeping it, enduring the fight and bearing good fruit

Mark 4:20 “And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.”

Matthew 13:23 “But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”

Luke 8:15 “But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

The crux of the matter:

The essential parable…the parable of the sower is really a lesson on hearing…Luke writes Jesus’ words in Luke 8:18..

Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.

As a summary to the whole parable, the verse explains that though its important to be able to hear God’s word, the keeping of them (His Words) in our hearts, even hiding it to prevent it from being snatched away is VERY important. David says in Psalms 119:11 …

Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

…its far more important for if we do this, patiently we shall bear fruit with it. And much more will be added. Not worldly things but precious heavenly things that were promised by the Lord – Matthew says in his book Chapter 6 verse 33…

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

…otherwise, those things that you didn’t keep and may just have heard would be taken away so you wont have anything at all (nada!).

Luke 8 verse 15 confirms we are in good ground if you realize this…

“But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.”

A study on Grace and a warning about doctrines

God and the word of His grace…builds up and gives an inheritance

It is the gospel of Christ.

Consider others in the measure of faith that God has given them at this season as you have and had in days past. Lest ye be defiled by the root of bitterness growing troubles by living ignorantly.

Romans 12:3~

For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

Romans 15:15~

Nevertheless, brethren, I have written the more boldly unto you in some sort, as putting you in mind, because of the grace that is given to me of God,

Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

The 3 bear witness to this- Grace of Jesus Christ, Love of God, and Communion of the Holy Ghost:

2Corinthians 13:14~

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen. The second epistle to the Corinthians was written from Philippi, a city of Macedonia, by Titus and Lucas.

1Thessalonians 1:1;5~

1 Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

5 For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.

We should be good stewards of God’s grace.

1Peter 4:10~

As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

God gives grace to the humble. He will perfect, establish, strengthen and settle you after the time of suffering. Jesus being the perfect example.

1Peter 5:5~

Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

1Peter 5:10~

But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

Hebrews 2:9~

But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

Warning about grace converters – subtle ungodly men

Jude 1:4~

For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

The unimaginable Greatness of God

Among some of the ‘mysterious’ verses of the Bible, this one has been part of many debates that usually come in creation VS evolution circles and so it is indeed a curious verse that can be interpreted in ways that can either become an enlightenment or a point of confusion (much have been attributed to the latter).

I have proven to myself through the years that I have been reading the word of God, that His word is without error and learned that God reveals His message in season. I hope to share this for the verse in question: 2Peter 3:8

“But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”

If you notice, the above statement comes as a warning. It is important that we be not ignorant of this truth that our one day is as a thousand years with the Lord and similarly so it implies, a thousand years is a mere day to Him.

I call this verse with the preceding verses from 1-7 as – the “unimaginable Greatness of God”.

You see our one day’s worth of events, seems like a thousand years to God in our perspective – seeing the works of His hands in a lot of details just to get though one day. We sometimes observe it or even ponder about how our day unfolded, but mind you we miss a whole lot of things going on in the background without our awareness they’re even taking place. Think about the workings of each sub atomic particles in our cells, to the movement of blood in our veins, the functioning of our organs, to the processing of information of our brains which forms our minds, senses, etc.; to the digestion of the food we eat, air flow through inhaling and exhaling, the growing of tiny hairs on our skin. Then think about each visible and invisible creatures in and outside our body – the single and multi-celled organisms in the water and the airborne ones, even the reproductive cells and symbiotic organisms, their systems are so complex. Think about the earth’s atmosphere, the weather cycles, , the laws of Physics working with consistency and rhythm, the unchanging cycles of this world. Every event that happens in a day of this life cannot be explained in a day, not even a few years. In our own body, we haven’t figured out a lot of things yet, let alone the rest of everything outside it, even this understanding is a gift from God.

Ecclesiastes 8:17~

“Then I beheld all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: because though a man labour to seek it out, yet he shall not find it; yea farther; though a wise man think to know it, yet shall he not be able to find it.”

Maybe these things don’t matter or are unimportant to you. But either way, we practically cannot fathom the vastness of our world let alone the greatness of the Creator. Think about the planets and the stars and the galaxies and the universe. All in one day, God makes their little events happen all in harmony and balance.

Tomorrow, we can only hope that things will go on as we perceive it. If we were in our right minds, we’d pray that God continues to be gracious to us in each day. Don’t ever forget that apart from the physical, He works in each of us by rearing us to maturity in the faith, helping us along the way, to understand His ways, dealing with our struggles, our disobedience, disciplining us when we become boastful and proud. By His mercy and grace , He leads us to salvation and we live and have our being. With His patience, He bears our lack of faith in spite of the many times we’ve proven Him over and over. We still fall by our disobedience to His will. Relying in the futility of our efforts to please Him, we stumble. He has longsuffering and love for us.

This is the God we serve.  Don’t you think we need to surrender to Him everything and believe in Him, depend on Him. Afterall, He’s the one who decides when all of these goodness will come to an end. In the end of our day, we realize only God  can do all these things. In the beginning, He created everything. In six days he did. To us it seems thousands of years. That’s truly how great God is and we haven’t even scratched the surface.

P.S. You know its funny as others think it even took billions of years:)

P.S.#2 – Conversion exercise: since 1 day =1000 yrs. and being that God made everything in 6 days before he ‘rested’, now the earth is 6,000 yrs old; maybe this work is also close to being completed and “God’s rest” is finally coming pretty soon and we are being reminded about this. See the whole scripture lesson below:

2Peter 3:1-8~

1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:

2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:

3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

God bless your soul today. In Jesus Christ’s name, Amen.

The Battle for Truth

No matter how much we strive, the truth remains.

We are told not to get fooled by the subtlety of the world…

2 Corinthians 11:3

But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

There are people who “subtly creep” in, whose intentions are wicked since the beginning…

Jude 1:4

For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

In the last days its been said  about scoffers and/or mockers.

2Peter 3:3

Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

We are also warned of false teachers.

2Peter2:1

But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

We heard about men avoiding the Word and taking teachers for themselves to send a “tickling” message to their ears. Messages that they want to hear.

2Timothy 4:3

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

Were told these people want to avoid the truth as it doesn’t fit their desire.
The wicked will be wicked and they are “driven by their own lusts”.
God has given them over to their own delusions so much as believe the lie they tell themselves.

2Thessalonians 2:11,12

11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

By grace you are here today, being given the discernment to hear the truth and thus know the lies and half-truths when you hear them. The liars and their lies wont endure long.
Remember the passage about the enemy scattering seeds of weeds (tares) among the good ones?

This is how the enemy works. Matthew 13:24-30

24  Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:

25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.

26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.

27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?

28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?

29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.

30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

There can only be one truth and one source. He gave us His Spirit to direct us and give us wisdom and discernment and bringing to remembrance the things which Jesus said and taught.

In John 14:26, Jesus Christ says-

But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

It should be our practice to spend our time reading the word of God not only for encouraging ourselves in the Lord as David did on 1 Samuel 30:6…

And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.

but also to feed our mind with the words of God.

Matthew 4:4 says…

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

His Word is alive and powerful it is also  “profitable for reproof and correction”. It separates the soulish portion of our being from what is spiritual.

Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

To be able to discern according to God’s will, one will have to ask God to set his mind to the desires of God’s Spirit rather than the fleshly desires that connects to this world. Normally when I’m in one of life’s crossroads, I try to take the way that least feeds my pride. It ends up better.

Romans 8:5-6-

5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

6 For to be carnally minded [is] death; but to be spiritually minded [is] life and peace.

Secondly, praying will enable us to avoid temptation.

Matthew 26:41

Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed [is] willing, but the flesh [is] weak.

It shouldn’t be different the way we talk to the Lord in our quiet time from the way we pray when confronted in a bus crowd by a foul mouthed teenager asking for money or at home when praying to the Lord for guidance as to how and what to say to the person knocking at the door trying to preach a strange doctrine or on the driveway as we notice an old neighbor we don’t get to talk to so often.

Note this phrase: “subtly creeping in”. Remember, there’s only one Truth. The other one is a lie. If what you know is not a lie according to God’s Spirit telling you through His word, then you know which one to believe.

Jesus said in John 15:26…

But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, [even] the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

Therefore test the spirits:

1John 4:1

1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

God bless you with more discernment and maturity in your faith.
